First, find out if your homeowners or renters insurance will cover property in storage. If it does not, you should be able to add it on to your plan. If not, there are very reasonable renters or storage insurance policies that can be purchased. Keep in mind that a storage facility's insurance only covers the structure and the land. It does NOT cover the contents of a rented unit. Give yourself peace of mind by adding insurance protection just in case.
DO NOT STORE PERISHABLES! Be sure to not pack anything in your unit that could spoil or spill. Foods, liquids, and other perishables can attract insects and rodents that can destroy your personal items. This can cause an infestation into other units.
